Our Story

Realizing a dream

The Wing Kei story began in 1996 with a group of devoted Christians whose dream was to provide compassionate care for Chinese seniors. The first step in this dream was the inception of Wing Kei Villa, a culturally specific unit within the Bethany Care Centre.

Over the next eight years, the group raised $5 million and worked diligently to build what is now the Wing Kei Care Centre—home to 135 long term care and 8 supportive living residents and provider of home care services to over 180 clients in nine Calgary communities.

From the time the first resident was welcomed to the Centre in May 2005, Wing Kei’s reputation for quality, safe care has grown. Thanks to a strong team of caregivers, residents that call Wing Kei home know that their needs will be met with respect and love and home care clients know that our work will enable them to continue living at home, with their families and in familiar surroundings.

And the Wing Kei story continues to unfold. We have received a $9 million grant from Alberta Seniors and Community Supports towards the development of a 95 bed supportive living facility. Located in Calgary’s Greenview community, this facility will provide health and personal care to residents while enabling them to live independently. The facility is anticipated to open in late 2013.

Quality care grounded in Christian love

Our approach to care is grounded in Christian concepts of love and compassion. Our staff is made up of interdisciplinary teams that work together to meet the needs of residents and clients. We build caring and trusting relationships with those we serve and invite families of our residents and clients to become part of our care team

Each member of our team has a voice—caregivers who are in the frontlines with residents and clients, those who work in the kitchen and housekeeping, administrators and volunteers. At Wing Kei, everyone on the team engages in discussion, offers advice and shares feedback to continually improve our services.
