DESCRIPTION

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Care and Clinical Manager, the Recreation Therapist will direct recreational assistants in implementing therapeutic recreation programs to enhance the quality of residents’ lives.
THE ROLE
Key Accountabilities
- Demonstrate, promote and advocate the Wing Kei vision, mission and core values
- Conducts therapeutic assessment, treatment goals/plans and regular care plan review for residents to remove barriers that prevents residents from participating in meaningful leisure and to maximize independence and participation
- In collaboration with residents, families, interdisciplinary team members and volunteers, promote physical, cognitive, social and emotional well-being through engagement in therapeutic activities
- Plan, implement, and evaluate individual and group therapeutic programs as related to resident specific goals according to Wing Kei’s Person and Family Centered Care Framework
- Supervise and provide guidance to Recreational Assistants
- Participate in on-going trainings to ensure high standard of service and best practices in the field is achieved

THE INDIVIDUAL WHO WILL SUCCEED
- Is aligned with Wing Kei’s vision and mission to continue to deliver excellence in seniors care
- Completion of a Bachelor degree, or higher, in recreation with a specialization in therapeutic recreation
- Current professional member of ATRA
- Completion of CPR training with a current license/certificate
- Is cheerful and resourceful, enthusiastic with a positive and flexible attitude
- Exhibits consistent critical thinking and problem solving
- Possess effective organization and program management skills
- Is diligent with good observation skills, keen attention to details and sensitivity to residents’ feelings, preferences and needs
- Possesses effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills to engage and motivate residents of varying abilities and to communicate and collaborate with families and the interdisciplinary team. The ability to communicate in Chinese would be an asset
- Experience in working in Long Term Care or Support Living (SL4) setting preferred
