June 1 to June 7 marked Seniors Week in Alberta. On Friday, a fire truck stopped outside Wing Kei to acknowledge our wonderful residents and thank the staff for their ongoing work. And we received wonderful surprise! Along with the fire truck, Minister Josephine Pon came by and cheered for residents and staff. We had a little dance party on the sidewalk, much to the amusement of residents who were watching through the windows.
We were pleased to host Tyler Shandro, Minister of Health, and Leah Lechelt, Executive Director, Christian Health Association of Alberta, on May 29 when they created a video outside of Wing Kei. The video outlines the scope of the additional provincial funding for continuing care and supportive living centres to manage the extra costs associated with the pandemic.
Window visits are going very well. Thank you for your cooperation with scheduling visits with your loved ones. It has certainly brought them joy! We had a particularly wonderful window visit when the granddaughter of one of our residents came on her wedding day and danced with her groom so her grandfather could see and be part of the celebrations. It was a beautiful and blessed moment.
