Since the inception of the Chinese Christian Wing Kei Nursing Home Association in 1996, Wing Kei has engaged thousands of families, donors and volunteers, to make a culturally-responsive continuing care facility for seniors a reality and beyond - now serving 320 residents and 64 adult day program clients. Such a lasting impact continues to be seen in events like our annual Walk for Wing Kei. What began in 2001 with only 600 participants as a fundraiser for Calgary’s first Asian-oriented care facility has grown into a powerful symbol of fellowship and care. Across 25 editions, the Walk for Wing Kei has raised $4.5M across thousands of donations and walkers. This passion shown by our community has inspired significant philanthropic contributions, including a recent $1M pledge from a loyal donor and a $1M grant from the Calgary Foundation towards the development of the new Wing Kei Highland Park facility.
The Wing Kei Highland Park facility is a 180-bed continuing care and hospice care centre, a $110M investment by Wing Kei to create an home-like environment for seniors to age with joy and dignity. The capital construction costs are the responsibility of operators like Wing Kei. and together in 2023 we started the Circle of Joy, a $5M capital campaign. Committing to building the Wing Kei Highland Park is a massive undertaking. We are motivated by the community's continued support, as recognized with this award, that we will be successful.
We proudly dedicates this award to our circle of care – to our passionate staff and volunteers that inspires trust which inspire generosity and partnership from the families and community. Thank you all for your support!
