DESCRIPTION
Wing Kei is an innovative, caring, and resourceful provider of culturally-appropriate Seniors Care in Calgary. We are a Christian, not-for-profit charitable organization that exists to create nurturing programs and services that supports the families in our community. Since opening in 2005, we have flourished with the loyal support of a like-minded community of government, funders, partners, and donors. Our high-in-demand services include long term care, supportive living, and an adult day program.
Under the supervision of the Volunteer Coordinator or designate, the Garden Assistant is responsible for overseeing and maintaining 5 outdoor gardens and 1 chapel garden across Wing Kei locations. This position will officially begin in Spring 2026.

THE ROLE
Key Accountabilities
- Demonstrate, promote and advocate the Wing Kei vision, mission and core values
- Help design and plan simple, esthetically pleasing, and inviting flower and small vegetable garden spaces that are budget-conscious and feasible for volunteers to maintain
- Consult with management and landscapers on establishing a low-maintenance garden at Wing Kei Highland Park (opening August 2026)
- Collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator, Manager and Community Relations team to request plant and garden supply donations from the community in early spring
- Train, coordinate, and supervise groups of dedicated garden volunteers for planting, watering, weeding, pruning, and end of season harvesting and clean up (volunteer recruitment handled by the Volunteer Coordinator)
- Communicate garden plans, materials, manpower and budget needs to the Volunteer Coordinator and Manager. Recommend support requirements from the Facilities team or from landscaping contractors
- Performs other related duties as assigned

• Minimum 3 years of gardening or landscaping experience.
• A detail-oriented and enthusiastic individual.
• Has good interpersonal skills and enjoys working in a team.
• Enjoys building rapport and connecting with a diverse audience.
